From May 25-28 ,2016 , the MIS Varsity team, coached by Tennisschule Raschke, participated at the ISST Vienna (International Schools Sports Tournament) in the most competitive Division 1.
6 teams represented their school from MIS Munich , AIS Vienna (American International School ,host), FIS (Frankfurt International School), COB (Cobham International School England), ASL (American School in Londonand STJ (St. Johns International School Belgium) with 16 players each, competing in Boys Singles, Boys Doubles, Girls Singles, Girls Doubles and Mixed.
Over the last few years, MIS has reached Division 1 thanks to Tennis Raschke’s coaching staff and the players’ commitment. The goal for this seasons’ last tournament was to stay at this Division.
On Wednesday, the teams and their coaches Laura Fink and Tomislav Bradic travelled by train to Vienna, where they were welcomed by their AIS host families. Head Coach Alexander Raschke arrived later that day. The teams had an early start on Thursday at 9 am. After a warm welcome by the hosting school , they started their warm-up and systematic drills, competing in matches until 6 pm. The coaches were present for mental and physical coaching.
The MIS team had a strong lineup and kept improving their tactical skills throughout the tournament. Following a long day of match play , the Coaches Dinner took place in Vienna which some players could not attend due to the physical strain of the days’ hard work.
On Saturday morning, the day started with the usual warm-up drills, stretching and serves, to prepare the players for the remaining matches until 3 pm. This day was deffinitely the high light oft he tournament as the MIS team won nearly all matches.
Shama Raghavan won first place in Girls Singles, followed by Match Ball for the Boys Doubles team Alexander Mittendorfer and Angel Munoz-Miranda, securing yet another first place. Overall, MIS won 4th place at the tournament and most of all, the team succeeded in staying in Division 1 !
Congratulations to the entire team for an extraordinary effort and team work and special thanks to Shama, Angel and Alexander for winning first place!
After the awards ceremony, the team travelled back to Munich.
